The past 5 years or so has seen the growth in popularity of a new kind of health supplement. It isn't technically a drug or medicine but it is said to use all natural ingredients in certain combinations that by harnessing the bodys natural healing and regenerative power has dramatic effects on the human body. These natural remedies include but are not limited to those that now fall under the category of Neutraceuticals.
There are a few things that should be noted about these natural health remedies because chances are that unless you live under a rock, at some point in the future you will consider the option of using one.
Firstly what are these natural health remedies and how do they work? Some of the more common natural health remedies you might have seen around the place are those like noni juice and hoodia for weight loss. The premise of these natural remedies is that rather than solving a health problem by administering a chemical to directly effect the causative agent in the body, they increase or decrease the levels of other chemicals that better allow the body to remove the problem via its own methods. For example if you want to treat hair loss you could use a drug that would physically stimulate hair regrowth or you can use a natural treatment that allows your body to stop producing the agent that causes the deterioration of hair cells so that the bodys natural growth of hair can continue.
As a general rule, few natural remedies are as powerful for specifically curing any given disease as a drug designed for that cause. A drug will generally work faster and have a higher rate of effectiveness.
This poses the question of why would we then use a natural remedy over a medicinal remedy? The main reason is because of a small factor called side effects. Again generally, and varying depending on the disease in question, medicinal remedies are far more prone to having side effects. As they are chemically enhanced compounds manufactured in a laboratory they are more difficultly assimilated into the body than that which is naturally occuring and so has a higher chance of causing upsets in a patients system.
The trouble nowadays can be finding a good natural remedy because with the rise of their popularity has come the increase in the number of imitations there are of actual products that are shown to have positive benefits. Research before you make decisions to find what the actual special natural ingredient is and whether the compound in question contains the proper amounts of it.
The question of whether or not a natural remedy is for you comes back to the condition you have and the trade off between its severity, the possibility of side effects and the necessity of a resolution. In any case natural remedies are proving to be a viable option in the prevention and treatment of various diseases.
