Lasik Eye Correction
By Charles Boisvert
www.ask-med.com
Lasik laser eye correction is a form of refractive surgery. The word lasik is the short term for "Laser assisted in situ kerotomileusis".
Lasik correction is a surgery that changes the shape of the cornea to correct hyperopia, myopia and astigmatism eliminating the need for glasses and contact lenses. People with myopia or near sightedness see things clearer when they are close as opposed to far objects. People with hyperopia or far sightedness have trouble seeing near objects as clearly as far objects. Astigmatism is when the image in the retina is distorted, this is caused by an abnormal shape of the cornea.
Lasik eye surgeons correct the refractive error by using a knife called a microkeratome to cut a thin c shaped flap in the cornea. The flap is then folded back exposing the stroma which is the center of the cornea. Pulse from an excimer laser uses an ultra violet beam to remove part of the stroma giving a normal shape to the cornea. The flap is then replaced.
The cornea is the thin layer of skin in the front of the eye. Its job is to help focus light to create an image on the retina. This is known as refraction. When the cornea becomes out of shape it creates an out of focus, blurred or distorted image called refractive errors.

Health Care: 20% U.S. Spending in 2016
By Miranda Hitti
WebMD Medical News
Projection for Almost Doubling of Health Care Spending, to Almost $4.1 Trillion
Health care will account for nearly 20 cents of every dollar spent in the U.S. in 2016, government experts predict.
If so, America's health care tab will be nearly twice as large as in 2006.
U.S. health care spending weighed in at $2.1 trillion last year. By 2016, the figure is projected to jump to $4.1 trillion, according to a government report published in Health Affairs.
Researchers included John Poisal, deputy director of the National Health Statistics Group, which is part of the Office of the Actuary in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
The report predicts the annual growth rate for prescription drug spending will soar from 7.4% in 2007 to nearly 10% in 2016.
The growth in health care spending on hospitals, expected to be about 7% starting this year, is predicted to keep that pace through 2016, according to the report.

Getting Off Of Nicotine, It's Really Not That Bad
By Trevor Kugler
www.jrwfishing.com
The entire fifteen years that I choked down heater after heater, all anyone ever told me was how I needed to quit and how terribly difficult quitting smoking was going to be. In the back of my mind, I never really bought into that line of logic. I always figured it was going to be as difficult to stop as I made it. I never bought into the fact that everyone else said it was going to be hard. And do you know what happened? After fifteen years of smoking, I walked away from cigarettes once and for All and it really wasn't all that hard. It was exactly as I thought it would be.
After finally quitting, I realized that the entire idea of quitting smoking is a huge business. And you trying, but not quite quitting means more money to the companies selling the products to help you quit. Not only that, but it's also in their best interest for you to believe that quitting is going to be all but impossible. You see, I found that what you believe about quitting is the most important thing. Not what drug you might take to help you quit. The power of belief is not only the major factor in quitting smoking, it's a major factor in your whole life. It's exactly as Muhammad Ali said of the power of belief, "It's the repetition of affirmations that leads to belief. And once that belief becomes a deep conviction, things begin to happen."

About Tinnitus
By Robert Hutchcraft
www.advancedhearingtechnologies.com
Sit still in a quiet room without making a sound. Do you hear a steady, faint noise? It may sound like a ringing in your ear, or maybe a whooshing similar to waves lapping the shore, or even a quiet but persistent buzzing. If you do, chances are high that you, like over 50 million Americans - suffer from tinnitus.
What is Tinnitus?
Tinnitus is a hearing disorder that affects people to different degrees. Tinnitus effects young and old, men, women and children. For some, the sensation of ringing in the ear may be temporary, brought on by illness or loud noise - maybe after attending a loud concert - or resulting from a build-up of earwax. In some cases, hearing is restored to normal after, yet there are many cases where tinnitus is constant, a twenty-four hour persistent twinge that can lead to frustration and even depression for the person suffering from it.
Common Causes of Tinnitus
Aside from the obvious suspects like loud noise and illness, more severe forms of tinnitus may be caused by other factors, including:
